Holidays in Portugal - Interesting Places to Visit on Your Vacation

Portugal is regarded as one of the oldest countries in Western Europe. It is a country full of magnificent old churches, rambling historic castles and beautiful monuments. These are equally matched by the new era of buildings and technologies that have sprung up in recent years fueled by a buoyant expanding economy.

Portugal is in the fortunate position of having a culture and strong regional traditions that have developed over many centuries. This has led to a strong and varied type of architecture leading to the Portuguese claiming that they have the best examples of ancient architecture in the whole of Europe. Mixing this together with Portugal's excellent climate helps make Portugal one of Europe's leading tourist destinations for families staying in holiday villas.

Lisbon is internationally recognized as one of Western Europe's most unspoiled cities. Many tourists also succumb to the temptation of visiting the delightful Sinatra and Cassias which are both easily accessible from Lisbon.

While traveling around Portugal, the discerning tourist cannot fail to be impressed by the numerous small villages. These radiate a feeling of peace and tranquility often alien to the visiting tourist's homeland. Many of these villages are hidden inside the rambling walls of old castles and the one thing that they all have in common is their stunning geographical locations.

The paradise island of Madeira set just off the Atlantic draws in many tourists. They are attracted there by the abundance of local floral creating fantastic views set against the magnificent coastlines and mountainous regions.

Many tourists simply come to Portugal for a relaxing holiday and in search of sun and sea. For those tourists looking to top up their suntans the region of Algarve fits the bill.

It is an area of long clean sandy beaches stretching out to some of the cleanest water in Europe. The area is recognized worldwide for its crystal clear waters that are mystically surrounded by dramatic cliffs. To top it off, the Algarve is regarded to have the best all round weather and has some of the best holiday villas in Europe..

Due to the superb weather conditions Portugal has many events that keeps the tourists coming back to see year after year. One such event held every October is the Angra do Heroismo International Jazz Festival. Over the years this event has grown to such an extent that it is now regarded as one of the best jazz festivals in Europe.

Not to be outdone, the central area of Portugal holds its own Festival of The Estuary every year in late July, early August. During this festival the city of Aveiro bursts into life and the flocking tourists turn it into a city of color and joy.

For those tourists looking for a more modern culture, there is an International Show Jumping competition held each July in Cascais. This internationally recognized event brings together some of the best horses and riders from around the world.

Golf fans are not left out either. As well as having some of the best golf courses in Europe and a climate to match, Portugal hosts the Portugal Open each year.

It is no wonder that Portugal has turned into one of the top holiday destinations in Europe. A combination of climate, culture and architecture have help provide an ideal holiday location enjoyed by my tourists year after year staying in holiday villas.

Souvenirs From Spain - What to Buy During Your Holidays in Spain

Spain has a good combination of rich culture, excellent cuisine and amazing travel attractions, which is why it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. If you're planning on spending holidays in Spain, you'll want to sample all three. You might want to bring home products that will remind you of them, too, like the following:

1. Spanish saffron - Saffron is one of the world's most sought-after spices, and Spanish saffron is the best of them all. Grown in the plains of La Mancha, Spanish saffron has the best rating when it comes to color and quality. It's not easy to find, too, so it's best to bring home a bottle or two for your kitchen or one of your cooking enthusiast-friends when you return from your holidays in Spain.

2. Sherry - True, sherry may not be as popular as red or white wine but it is definitely a treasure of its own - a treasure you'll want to bring home from the town of Jerez. Like the Spanish saffron, sherry can be a great addition to your kitchen, if not to your own wine cupboard, since it can be used as a cooking ingredient, too.

3. Ceramics - Spain is well known for its ceramic industry so make sure you buy ceramic plates when you go shopping in Spain. You can buy ceramic tiles, too, if you wish, from Valencia and Seville or bring home some exquisite pieces of Majorcan pottery to decorate your living room with.

4. Leather goods - Leather is another product Spain is famous for, so make sure you buy a fine pair of shoes, a belt or a purse made of superior Spanish leather as tokens of your holidays in Spain.

5. Lace - Shopping in Spain won't be complete unless you buy a lace handkerchief, shawl or tablecloth. Spanish lace products are handmade in Catalonia, where the lace-making industry began in the 16th century.

6. Hand fans - Sure, you can buy hand fans from many shops around the world but there's still something to be said about buying them in Spain, where they are handmade and very popular. Some hand fans are even embroidered or made of ivory. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to pack, too, so you can buy one for each of your friends.

These are just some things you can buy during your holidays in Spain. Keep in mind, though, that the best souvenirs are your own photographs and memories, which are priceless and can be treasured for a lifetime.

Ideas For Cheap Villas Holidays

The recession hit Britain hard, with many people forced to give up luxuries in order to conserve cash. One luxury that we are not so keen to give up, however, is holidays.
It's possible to enjoy cheap villas holidays relatively easy in Europe, although you may need to be a bit more creative than in previous years.
One of the main reasons for the price hike has been the weakening of the pound against the euro, which meant that while prices of commodities in Europe didn't actually alter that much, our pound was less valuable, and so the cost of living on a European holiday rocketed.
At one point, the euro was almost equal value to the pound, meaning that when in previous years a glass of beer costing 3.50 euro was very cheap in comparison with our British prices, a glass of beer suddenly cost almost 3.50 pounds.
Similarly, eating out in restaurants is no longer the dirt-cheap activity it once was, although there are still bargains to be found.
So where are the best places to go for cheap villas holidays? Spain is still a good option if you avoid the Costa del Sol, which tends to be the most pricey holiday destination in Spain.
Tax is relatively low on commodities such as alcohol and cigarettes, and you can find cheaper places to eat and drink if you shop around.
The beauty of cheap villas holidays is that you cater for yourselves, meaning there's no need to spend lots of money on eating out in restaurants every night if you don't want to. Simply find a supermarket (these are generally cheaper than the tiny local shops) and stock up on local food to see you through.
Imported brands will be much more expensive, so avoid these if you want to save money. Portugal is also a great destination for cheap villas holidays. The Algarve offers some of the most stunning beaches with a dramatic red-cliff coastline and some lively resorts, such as Albufeira. This resort is split into two sides: Old Town and New Town, with the former being the more family-friendly, restaurant-orientated part of the two. The huge amount of restaurants means that prices are kept relatively low due to competition.
New Town offers a few good restaurants, but is more focussed towards bars and clubs and lively nightlife. Again, you will find there are bargains to be had once you get your bearings and know the places to frequent.
